“Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close.”
Psalms 27:10 (NLT)
What a verse. What a great truth. But if we are honest, we would admit it is hard to believe. Why? Because we tend to believe that God will treat us the same way our mother and father did. It is important to answer the question, “How do we feel God relates to us?” Do we really believe God will be good to us? Do we believe He will really protect us, care for us, be proud of us, love and comfort us? That is what God wants to do but chances are, if our parents were distance, we will believe the same about God. If our dad never hugged us, we probably won’t believe that God wants to comfort us. We end up believing lies. But today’s verse is true, “Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close.” So make a list. Write down how your father and mother related to you. If there is anything negative in their behavior toward you? If so, renounce the belief that God will do the same. Renounce any thought that stands against the fact that you are precious in the Lord’s sight. Remember, even if your father and mother did not believe in you, God does. He loves you. He will hold you close.
Father, thank You that Your love is greater than any parent. Your protection is more powerful than any father. Your comfort is more immediate and present than any mother. Help me see it, help me believe it, help me know it deep in my soul. In Jesus’ name.
