TODAY’S VERSE
Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.” “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!”
Mark 9:22-24 (NLT)
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever had faith and doubt at the same time? It is easy to do. You want to believe with all your heart, yet your mind feeds you discouraging thoughts and questions begin to mount their assault against your belief. What do you do? You hear Jesus say, “Anything is possible if a person believes.” And you agree, God can do anything. The hesitation comes in the human side of the equation. Why? Why would God answer my prayer? What? What have I seen in the past that would allow me to assume God will do this? And so you begin to doubt. But the author doesn’t stop here. God allows Mark to record the father’s response. So today, on behalf of all of us who wrestle with faith, we can join the father in crying out to our loving Father, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!”
TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh Loving Father. How I wrestle with faith. How I want to believe. Please hear the cry of my heart, “I do believe, help me overcome my unbelief!” In Jesus’ Name.
AMEN
