TODAY’S VERSE
You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.
II Corinthians 9:7-8 (NLT)
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Generosity is close to the heart of God. John tells us that, “God so loved the world that He gave – His only Son.” In today’s verse, God promises to generously provide more than we need. Why? So we can give the surplus to others. But it is hard to be generous if we are not sure what we need. This is where we each need to seek God will for our life. Paul wrote, “You must each decide in your heart how much to give.” I would add, “We must also decide how much we do not need!” When we do, we will find ourself following the rest of Paul’s admonition in which he writes, “Don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” Today, start thinking about how much you don’t need and what you can give to others.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father. Thank You for providing all that I need. Help me to give to others as generously as You give to me.
AMEN
