You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.
Luke 6:36 (NLT)
We often think of Jesus in terms of His miracles, good deeds, death on the cross and His resurrection. But just as important was His teaching. In one particular sermon Jesus taught about being compassionate like God the Father. He started out saying, “But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you.” This is a radical type of love and easier said than done. Jesus gives His rational by saying, “If you love only those who love you, why should you get credit for that? Even sinners love those who love them!” He finishes by sharing with the crowd, “Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.” Today, pray about being loving like our Heavenly Father. He loved us while we were so far from Him. We must be compassionate to others.
Dear Father, Your call to love others is radical. Please fill me with Your spirit and birth in me a compassion like Your compassion that I might love others with Your heart.
