“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Psalm 139:23-24 (NIV)
Truth will set us free. Free from bondage, free from negative thinking, free from poor choices. But truth can be elusive. This is why we must call upon the Lord to help us be honest with ourself. David did this. He asked God to search the deepest parts of his mind and heart and point out any offensive ways in him. Jeremiah in Lamentations encourages us to, “examine our ways and test them.” And when we ask God for help we can rest assured that He has our best in mind. His purpose isn’t to fail us, embarrass us or send us back a grade. His desire is to encourage and motivate us, moving us toward maturity. What better way to mature than coming before God, examining our progress and letting Him coach us through the power of His word and the Holy Spirit. Today, let God examine your heart. Seek His direction and let Him lead your way.
Father, search me and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
