Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)
There is a difference between appreciation and thankfulness. When we appreciate something it gives us a good feeling. We are full of appreciation. Thankfulness is a verbal expression of gratitude. It is relational. You show gratitude and give thanks to what has caused your appreciation. Giving thanks opens your heart toward a deeper relationship. It is that way with God. Paul wrote that we shouldn’t worry about anything but let worry be a cue that we need to pray about everything instead. We do this by telling God what we need and express thankfulness to Him for all He has done. This allows a deeper relationship with Him. Paul writes that the result of this gratitude toward God is the ability to experience God’s peace in ways we cannot even imagine. This peace guards our emotions and our thinking as we live out our relationship with Him. So today, show God gratitude. Be thankful and delight in Him. Make it a habit and it will change your life.
Dear Father, thank You for all You have done for me. I am deeply grateful and full of appreciation at Your wondrous love for me. Fill me with Your peace and protect my heart and my mind. In Jesus’ name.
